For stronger overall room darkening, an outside-recess / outside-mount installation with sufficient overlap beyond the window opening generally provides better edge coverage.

This creates a clean, integrated appearance while leaving the surrounding wall or decorative window trim visible.

Before measuring, make sure the recess has enough unobstructed depth for the Roman shade and mounting hardware.

Check carefully for:

HOW TO MEASURE FOR AN OUTSIDE-RECESS / OUTSIDE-MOUNT ROMAN SHADE

An outside-mount Roman shade is installed onto the wall or decorative trim outside the window opening.

Outside mounting can provide:

• Reduced light entering around the edges

STEP 1 – MEASURE THE WINDOW OPENING

Measure the actual width of the window opening.

STEP 2 – ADD SIDE OVERLAP

For proper coverage, the finished Roman shade should generally be at least 4 inches / approximately 10 cm wider than the actual window opening wherever sufficient mounting space is available.

This normally provides approximately:

• 2 inches / 5 cm overlap on the left

This is a functional cord-operated Roman window shade.
