HOW TO MEASURE FOR AN INSIDE-RECESS ROMAN SHADE

An inside-recess or inside-mount Roman shade is installed within the window opening.

1. Use a rigid metal measuring tape rather than a flexible fabric tape.

2. Check that the recess has sufficient depth for the Roman-shade mechanism and mounting clamps.

3. Measure the exact internal width across the top of the recess, where the mechanism will be installed.

4. Measure the exact internal height from the top of the recess to the sill or required finishing point.

5. Check for window handles, locks, alarm sensors, molding or other obstructions.

6. Enter the exact recess width and height in the order details email.

7. Clearly state “INSIDE RECESS.”

8. Do not add extra width to an inside-recess measurement.

9. Measure every window separately, even when multiple windows appear identical.

10. Record measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch or approximately 0.1 cm.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR AN OUTSIDE-RECESS ROMAN SHADE

An outside-recess or outside-mount Roman shade is installed on the wall, trim or frame surrounding the window opening.

1. Measure the exact width of the uncovered window opening.

2. Where sufficient space is available, add approximately 2 inches or 5 cm to the left side.

3. Add approximately 2 inches or 5 cm to the right side.

4. This provides approximately 4 inches or 10 cm of total additional width for improved privacy, coverage and light control.

5. Decide where the top of the shade will be installed. Where space permits, approximately 4 inches or 10 cm above the window frame is recommended.

6. Measure vertically from this upper mounting position to the exact point where you want the bottom of the shade to finish.

7. Include any required coverage beneath the window opening or sill.

8. Enter the complete finished shade width and height, including all added overlap.

9. Clearly state “OUTSIDE RECESS.”

For stronger overall blackout performance, allow generous overlap around the top, bottom and both sides of the window opening.
