HOW TO MEASURE FOR INSIDE-RECESS INSTALLATION

An inside-recess Roman shade is installed within the window opening for a neat, streamlined and built-in appearance.

1. Confirm that the window recess has sufficient clear depth and a suitable mounting surface for the Roman shade mechanism and clamps.

2. Measure the internal width of the window recess at three positions: the top, middle and bottom.

3. Record the smallest of the three width measurements. Window openings are not always perfectly square, so the smallest measurement is the safest reference.

4. Measure the internal height of the recess at the left side, center and right side.

5. Record the longest of the three height measurements so that the lowered blind can cover the complete opening.

6. Use a rigid metal measuring tape for the most accurate result.

7. Check for projecting window handles, locks, tiles or other obstacles that could interfere with the shade.

8. Enter the exact recess measurements in the order details email and clearly state “inside recess.”

9. Do not round the measurements up to the nearest whole inch or centimeter.

Inside-mounted Roman shades require a small fitting clearance. Narrow lines of light may therefore remain around the outer edges, even when the blackout liner is selected.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR OUTSIDE-RECESS INSTALLATION

An outside-recess Roman shade is installed on the wall or window frame above and around the window opening. This fitting can make a window appear larger and usually provides better privacy and light coverage.

1. Decide exactly where the top of the Roman shade will be installed.

2. Measure the total finished width you want the blind to cover.

3. Where space permits, add approximately 2–4 inches or 5–10 cm of overlap to each side of the window opening.

4. Additional side overlap helps reduce light gaps and improves privacy.

5. Measure vertically from the intended upper mounting position to the point where you want the lowered blind to finish.

6. Include additional coverage below the window opening where possible.

7. Allow sufficient wall space above the window for the Roman folds to stack when the blind is raised.

8. Enter the final finished shade width and height in the order details email and clearly state “outside recess.”

For an outside-recess installation, provide the final dimensions you want the complete Roman shade to measure. Do not enter only the dimensions of the glass.
